Roland Freeman was tremendously accomplished—as a photographer, documentarian, author, organizer, exhibition producer and curator, folklorist, educator, and quilt collector.

In May 1990, we traveled to Ukraine to participate in the second International Folklore Festival and a scholarly symposium on folklore in the contemporary world.
